PM wants to implement 5 reforms before election

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha wants to accelerate five major national reforms before calling for a general election in Thailand, according to a government spokesman. Spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister has mapped out five “quick win” issues to the committee responsible for national reform and they should be accomplished within eight months before the general election, scheduled to be held early next year. The five “quick win” issues call for reforming civil servant system, solving people livelihood, suppressing corruption, building people participation, and lowering disparity and creating social justice. Several of these objectives have been implemented such as offering welfare to the poor, said Lt Gen Sansern. He quoted the prime minister as saying that “no (national) reform could be accomplished in short-term.” (END)
