Energy trading via blockchain platform
BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) -- A Thai company plans to start the country’s first energy trading via blockchain platform by deploying solar rooftop facilities for a housing project.
BCPG Public Company and its partner, Australia-based startup Power Ledger, have launched the first peer-to-peer energy project with solar rooftop facilities for commercial and residential units of Sansiri’s real estate development project in Bangkok.
Bundit Sapianchai, BCPG president, said beginning in June, the community mall, school and service apartments in the project would buy and sell their own electricity via blockchain platform hosted by the company.
The competitive price would reduce electricity cost for each use by an average of 25 per cent, he said.
Mr Bundit added that the alternative energy source provided competitive price and people could sell back to the electricity authority.
This peer-to-peer trading platform was a solution to energy management and gave communities the opportunities to maximize the value of their renewable energy investment.
The “Low Cost, Low Carbon” energy model benefited all users enabling households to buy and sell solar power to one another using solar-powered microgrids, he said.
