Hong Kong tourists arrested for allegedly falsified complaint
BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) -- Three Hong Kong tourists are arrested for allegedly falsified a complaint that a Thai tuk tuk driver robbed them hoping to claim compensations from insurance policies.
The three tourists reported to Thai police on Sunday that while returning from a shopping mall to their hotel in Bangkok’s Silom Road the tuk tuk driver used a knife to threaten them before snatching three mobile phones, two cameras and Bt45,000 cash.
Tourist police receiving the complaints found inconsistencies in their accounts and checked all evidence including surveillance camera footage.
The trio was eventually admitted falsifying their complaint and became criminals.
In the search at their hotel room, police found their smartphones. The two cameras and cash never existed.
Deputy Tourist Police chief Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpan said the three admitted they wanted to claim compensation from their tourism insurance policies which would worth around Bt250,000.
Their crime was punishable for up to three years in prison and Bt60,000 fine, he said.
They would be prosecuted before being deported and blacklisted. (TNA)
