Mitre Lao Sugar Mill opens

(KPL) Mitre Lao Sugar Mill was officially opened on 2 March after two years of construction.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban were present at the opening ceremony.
The mill is located at Ban Kenghed, Sayboury district, Savannakhet province. It is the investment of 63 million US dollars by Thai businessman and has annual production capacity of 24,000 tonnes.Ninety-five per cent of all produce will be exported to EU markets and only five per cent for selling domestically.
Director General of Mitre Lao Sugar Mill Company, Mr. Bantheung Vongkusonkrit expects that the fiscal year 2009-2010, the company will annually produce 500,000 tonnes of sugar or 6,000 tonnes a day.The company also has sugarcane farmland in Outoumphone district of Savannakhet province and Sebangfai district of Khammouane province on a total of 6,400 hectares, he said.
Next year, the company will propose the government to lease a rental of 10,000 ha for expanding its sugarcane farmland.
The government has granted 40 years to the company for producing sugar in the country with additional extension periods of 20 years.Before its official production opening the factory had its trial production in November last year.
