A new model of the development of Kazakh universities, specifically the University 4.0 was introduced and discussed at an international forum held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York. The new model focuses on research, innovations, entrepreneurship and spiritual values. The forum was organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University as part of the Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity program. The event also received support by the UN Alliance of Civilizations and representatives of Kazakhstan in the organization.
GALYMKAIR MUTANOV, RECTOR, AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:
- What model can serve the further evolutionary development of universities? In order to answer this question, we proposed a new model, the University 4. 0. If earlier we had said that education and science are very important, today, on top of this, it is necessary to add spiritual values. The younger generation should be educated on this. For this purpose, we are getting support to continue the works.
The High Representative for the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser highlighted the importance of the initiative. He urged other universities in the world to develop concrete steps to educate the youth within the framework of the UN Global Citizenship program.
NASSIR ABDULAZIZ AL-NASSER, HIGH REPRESENTATIVE FOR UNITED NATIONS ALLIANCE OF CIVILIZATIONS:
- The link between education, tolerance and friendship between nations relate to specific mandate of the UNAOC.
The Al-Farabi University Smart City project was successfully implemented as part of the University 4.0 model. In addition, the ‘Green Bridge through Generations’ project is also currently under works at the university. The project is part of the Green Bridge initiative proposed by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.
