S. Korea helps Myanmar establish online legal information system

SEOUL, May 28 (Yonhap) -- Myanmar has recently launched an online government system on legal information with assistance from South Korea, Seoul officials said Monday. The opening ceremony of the Myanmar Law Information System (MLIS) was held in Naypyidaw on Thursday. It enables people to obtain legal information via the Internet or mobile phones. South Korea has injected US$3.65 million in the project over the past three years. The Ministry of Government Legislation and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the state overseas aid agency, participated in the project. "The government is now able to provide information on laws and regulations to the people in a swift and easy manner. I thank the South Korean government for helping us establish the system," Htun Htun Oo, the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Myanmar, was quoted by the KOICA as saying at the ceremony.
