ICT ministers of S. Korea, China, Japan gather in Tokyo

SEOUL, May 28 (Yonhap) -- Information and communication technology (ICT) ministers of South Korea, China and Japan gathered in Tokyo to discuss ways to cooperate in the ICT sector, the science ministry here said Monday. The meeting, the first in seven years, brought together ICT Minister Yoo Young-min and his counterparts Miao Wei, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, and Seiko Noda, Tokyo's Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. The policymakers signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to better cope with the fourth industrial revolution that is radically shifting the economic landscape and changing the nature of jobs across the world. The three countries discussed ways to work together for the early commercialization of a high-end fifth-generation network, officials here said. The neighboring economies have been working to utilize 5G technology so that the super-fast network can be adopted for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and also for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
