Lido screens its last film today

BANGKOK, May 31 (TNA) -- Lido Multiplex, art-house cinema in Siam Square opened today for the last day as upto 1,000 filmgoers bid farewell to the cinema, an entertainment venue for film lovers for over 50 years. Both young and old movie buffs lined up to buy tickets for their last historic visit to Lido before it is closed permanently tomorrow. Lido started screening movies on June 27, 1968, as a stand-alone cinema, long before the boom of multi-screen complexes in the early 2000s. Today, the final movie to be on screen at 8.45 pm is Kids on the Slope, adapted from Yuki Kodama‘s jazz-themed manga. After the ending of the cinema, the premise will be returned to landlord, Chulalongkorn University’s property management office for further land development. (TNA)
