AZERTAC, Xinhua news agencies sign cooperation agreement Baku, June 1, AZERTAC The 1st Media Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has been held in Beijing, China. The event brought together heads and representatives of media organizations of SCO member, observer states and dialogue partners. Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) Aslan Aslanov, who is also president of News Agencies World Congress and the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), represented Azerbaijan as a dialogue partner at the Media Summit. Addressing the Media Summit, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Huang Kunming said that such an initiative was first announced by the first President of People's Republic of China Xi Jinping at the summit of heads of the SCO member states. He described the media as an important tool for uniting nations and promoting peace and development. "We should make extensive use of this tool in promoting the SCO's mission. The media can make a significant contribution to the development of dialogue among the SCO countries,” Huang Kunming said in his remarks on the role of media in combating terrorism and extremism, promoting security and peace. Secretary General of the SCO Rashid Alimov described the Media Summit as a historic event. He emphasized the importance of this format, first of all, in terms of ensuring media, information and experience exchange among the media outlets. Alimov highlighted the significant role of journalists in society and emphasized the importance of following the principle of objectivity in covering the events. Speaking about the 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit to be held on June 9-10 in the Chinese city of Qingdao, Alimov said that up to 20 documents are expected to be signed and an agreement to be reached with UNESCO during the event. The "Strengthening of information of exchange and cooperation among the media outlets" initiative was adopted at the Media Summit. Then the signing ceremony was held. Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) and Xinhua news agency signed an agreement on cooperation in the field exchange of information. The agreement envisages daily exchange of news, photo and video sharing and social media cooperation between the two agencies. Under the agreement, the sides will conduct regular exchange of experience between new media editors and IT specialists.
