FDA strictly controls cosmetics manufacturers nationwide

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched a three-month campaign to examine cosmetics factories nationwide in a wake of crackdown on illegal and substandard cosmetics and food supplements. Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Jesada Chokdamrongsuk led officials to inspect the cosmetics factory, owned by Pathawan co, ltd in Pathum Thani on Monday, as the authorities today started inspection on cosmetics production to ensure safety of consumers. The inspection found the company passed the standard. The ministry assigned provincial health offices to step up inspection at all cosmetics plants across the country within three months. If any factory is found to violate the FDA regulation, its registration will be revoked and the manufacturer faces one year in prison and a maximum fine of 100,000 baht. New producers, who seek registration with the authorities are required to have their factories checked by FDA officials or public health officials within 15 days after they submitted documents for the registration of their products, said the permanent secretary. FDA Secretary-General, Dr Wanchai Sattayawuthipong said the FDA, in charge of regulating health products and local public health office last month completed inspection at manufacturing places of food supplements, susceptible to pose a serious risk for people’s health in Pathum Thani. Additional 1,000 places will be checked within the three-month time frame. (TNA)
