Historic meth pills seizure
CHIANG MAI, June 4 (TNA) -- The Provincial Police Region 5 announced the arrest of members of a major narcotics gang and the historic seizure of nearly 15 million meth pills.
The deputy national police chief Gen Chalermkiat Sriworakan convened a press conference at the Provincial Police Region 5 headquarters in Chiang Mai that the police can arrest a narcotics gangs members Kittiyoti Mangkala and Pramote Mangkala.
The men were arrested while in possession of nearly 15 million meth pills which were separated into 7,483 bundles and hidden in 74 green coloured backpacks.
The narcotics were concealed in the bed of a 6-wheeled truck that was covered with a large canvas cover. The ruck was registered in Chiang Rai and was stopped at the Pu Kaeng checkpoint in Phan district.
The narcotics had been transported over the border and was to be distributed to the syndicate's branches in Thailand by first been taken to a collecting point in Ayutthaya province before sending to Bangkok's surrounding areas and to the southern provinces.
The duo admitted that this was their 2nd operation and was paid 100,000 each time.
Later police raided properties in Chiang Mai belonging to the two men and seized a tractor trailer, an automobile, gold jewellery, luxury watches and a bank passbook that showed more than 10 million baht in the account. They are now expanding their investigation to track down the other members of the syndicate. (TNA)
