Thailand will burn huge amounts of drugs

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) -- Thailand will burn huge amounts of drugs worth over Bt13 billion to mark the world’s anti-narcotics day next Monday. Food And Drug Administration of Thailand announced on Thursday its plan to burn drugs confiscated from narcotics cases on June 25 using the incinerator at an industrial estate in Ayutthaya province. A joint panel of FDA, police and other law enforcement agencies has examined the narcotic drugs, which have been stored by the FDA. FDA officials say the drugs weighing 6.2 tons were seized from 7,245 cases. Methamphetamine, known in Thai as Ya Ba, accounted for most of the drugs; over five tons. Other include crystal methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. In the near future, an offficial revealed, confiscated drugs would be destroyed in a more speedy process after a new law become effective. There are about 85 tons of illicit drugs from unclosed cases remaining in FDA’s possession. (TNA)
