Bangkok Bank chairman passes away at 85

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - Chatri Sophonpanich, chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangkok Bank died of natural causes at the age of 85. He received the treatment at Bumrungrad Hospital and was pronounced dead at 8 pm yesterday. His funeral will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church in Soi Ruam Rudi. Mr Chatri was born on Feb 28, 1933 as the second son of Chin Sophonpanich, the founder of the Bangkok Bank. He held many key positions in various organizations in business such as the chairman of the Thai Bankers Association for three terms, chairman of the ASEAN Bankers Association and chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries. He was bestowed with Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asia Pacific Bankers Congress for his contributions to banking business development and making Bangkok Bank achieve sustainable growth and widely accepted in Asia. Forbes ranked him the 26th richest person in Thailand in 2018 with cash and assets of about $1.47 billion or about Bt45.5 billion. (TNA)
