About 6,500 people arrested for gambling on World Cup
BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) – The police busted 6,500 people nationwide for gambling in the 2018 World Cup.
Pol Gen Chalermkiart Srivorakhan, deputy national police chief said since the beginning of the FIFA World Cup games, the police arrested more than 6,500 people including 250 bookies in the nationwide crackdown and seized more than 28 million baht.
FIFA World Cup 2018 is currently going on in Russia.
The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) will cooperate in following the money trail of gambling rings, which operate on the websites, registered both in the country and overseas.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and Technology Crime Suppression Division will work on gathering evidence on the online gambling to seek the court’s approval for shutdown of those websites.
The deputy nation police chief said he ordered provincial police to keep an eye on young people aged under 18 years in the computer game shops as they could be involved in online gambling. (TNA)
