DEPUTY PM U.ENKHTUVSHIN ATTENDING UN HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin is attending the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development taking place on July 16-18 in New York, USA. In his remarks, the Deputy PM underlined that Mongolia is one of the countries which has defined its national sustainable development strategies early and he introduced that the Government is taking concrete steps to implement Mongolia Sustainable Development Vision 2030 approved in February 2016. While presenting Mongolia’s efforts for ensuring sustainable development, he highlighted the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) successfully hosted in Ulaanbaatar city, which adopted 'Asia Regional Plan for Implementation of Sendai Framework for DRR 2018-2022' and 'The Ulaanbaatar Declaration'. Furthermore, Deputy PM U.Enkhtuvshin noted that the Multilateral Agreement for Establishment of International Think Thank for Land Locked Developing Countries came into effect on October 6, 2017 and the first international organization headquartered in Ulaanbaatar opened in June, 2018. During the forum delegates are discussing implementation of sustainable development goals on energy, water, desertification, disaster risk and urban planning and they will ratify the Ministerial Declaration. As part of the forum, Mongolia, Armenia, Colombia, and Switzerland in collaboration with UNISDR organized a discussion titled ‘Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction for Building Sustainable and Disaster Resilient Society’ on July 16. At the discussion, Deputy PM made a regional report on disaster risk reduction actions in Asian countries for the implementation of the Sendai Framework and briefed the results of the Second AMCDRR took place in Ulaanbaatar city on July 3-6.
