PM worries over flooding
BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed concerns over severe flooding in several parts of Thailand, especially in northeast, and has ordered related government agencies to provide assistance to flood victims, said a spokesman of Prime Minister’s Office.
Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister, during visiting Bhutan, has monitored heavy flooding in several parts and has ordered concerned government agencies including the Interior and the Agricultural and Cooperatives ministries to urgently offer assistance to flood victims.
Farm and orchard areas in the north and the northeast are being battered by heavy rains in the past few weeks, resulting in severe flooding and hurting farmers.
Gen Prayut has also ordered government agencies to properly control floodwater in every affected areas and has learned that the Agricultural and Cooperatives Ministry could release water stored at several dams in the northeast effectively, according to Lt Gen Sansern.
He has also ordered officials to inspect water barriers and to repair those which are damaged so that people would not be affected from flood, Lt Gen Sansern added. (TNA)
