Religious activities for Buddhist Lent

BANGKOK, July 24 (TNA) – The Culture Ministry invites public members to join making candles as offerings to ten temples for the Buddhist Lent at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground while the country will hold various religious activities to mark Asarnha Puja Day and Buddhist Lent Day this week. Vice Minister of Culture Chaweerat Kasetsoontorn said the religious affairs department and Buddhist Network Organizations of Thailand joined hands to hold the chanting ceremony for making 10 Buddhist Lent candles on Monday. The candles will be given to ten temples in Bangkok such as Wat Ratchabophit, Wat Phra Chetuphon, Wat Benjamabophit and Wat Bowonniwet. During the Buddhism Promotion Week from July 22-28, she said many activities will be held across the country. In Bangkok, Buddha relics from five eras have been placed at Sanam Luang for public members to pay respects to the holy relics until July 28. Dharma preaching, quiz, Buddhist chanting competition, evening prayers and meditation practice will be also held at Sanam Luang. In the provinces, there will be morning alms, candle making and Buddhist Lent Candle procession and Dharma preaching. (TNA)
