New banknotes issued on King’s birthday
BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) -- The Bank of Thailand (BoT) on His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun’s birthday on Saturday issued new banknotes bearing 500 and 1,000-baht denominations.
The front side of the new banknotes shows His Majesty the King in the Royal Thai Air Force uniform.
The reverse side of the 500 baht banknote shows the portraits of His Majesty King Prajadhipok and His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol.
The 1,000-bank banknote bears the portraits of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Ensuring the public that the new banknotes are difficult for counterfeiting, the BoT said the banknotes are printed with special ink which creates a moving effect of geometric pattern and changes colour from gold to green when the banknote is tilted.
The BoT on April 6 which was the Chakri Day issued 20, 50 and 100 banknotes depicting the portrait of reign His Majesty the King.
Also, the windowed colour-shifting security thread changes its colours and shows its moving effect when the banknote is tilted.
On iridescent pattern, Thai ornaments are printed vertically with yellowish iridescent ink next to the watermarks area.
The banknotes can be exchanged at any commercial banks, the Government Savings Bank, the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand. The existing and the previous series remain legal tender.
The BoT urged the financial institutions to reserve the new banknotes enough for public demand. (TNA)
