Foreign Minister Receives Courtesy Call From Australia’s Minister Of Foreign Affairs

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia) Aug 1 (Bernama) — Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah Tuesday received a courtesy call from Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) VIP lounge here. The courtesy call was held at 9.40 pm at KLIA here because Saifuddin was scheduled to fly to Singapore at 11 pm soon after meeting Bishop. Prior to the courtesy call Bishop arrived at KLIA from Timor Leste at about 9.15 pm. In Singapore, Saifuddin will attend the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting/ Post Ministerial Conferences and Related Meetings (51st AMM/PMC) which began Monday July 30 to Aug 4. The Post Ministerial Conferences involved ASEAN Dialogue Partners namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia and the United States. Bishop is on a three-day visit to Malaysia beginning Tuesday. Wisma Putra in a statement earlier said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen relations with the new government and ensure the continuity of the existing bilateral relations. Wisma Putra’s statement also said Bishop’s visit would provide opportunities for Australia and Malaysia to explore as well as strengthen existing relations under the strategic partnership arrangement in various fields including trade and investment, education, tourism, defence and people to people relations. — BERNAMA
