Thai princess helps to lay foundation stone of Mekong bridge

(KPL) A foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of the third Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, which would connect Thakhek district, Khammouane province with Nakhon Pramon province, Thailand was held in Thakhek district on 6 March.
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand and Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit jointly laid the foundation stone.
The ceremony was attended by Thailand’s Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjachiva and his delegation and Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his delegation. Also present were officials from the two countries.
Mr Thongloun who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of Lao Government and people, said that the foundation stone laying ceremony is a reality today because the two governments, Laos and Thailand want better two-way communication and also better logistical transportation between the two countries and the sub-region.
Construction work will commence in June this year and it is scheduled for completion in 36 months time and that will be in June 2012.
