Qatari Exports to Jordan Rise to JD24 Million during Last Five Months
Amman, August 23 (QNA) - Qatari exports to Jordan rose to 24 million Jordanian dinars (JD) during the last five months of 2018 compared to JD10.7 million in the same period in 2017, according to figures released by the Jordanian Department of Statistics in its monthly report on foreign trade.
In its report, the Department of Statistics said that Jordan's exports to Qatar dropped as of the beginning of the year until last May to JD39.9 million compared to JD56 Million during the same period last year.
Prior to the siege imposed on Doha, Jordan exported to Qatar between 400 to 500 tons of vegetables and fruits per day, this decreased due to the siege to nearly 150 tons.
The Jordanian exports to Qatar followed two solutions. The first solution is to ship large-weight goods such as machinery and equipment from Aqaba (southern Jordan) to the Omani port of Salalah and from there to Hamad Port at almost double the cost of shipping and long duration. The second is to ship light-weight goods by air, which costs more than shipping. (QNA)
