New pedestrian bridge, latest landmark in Bangkok
BANGKOK, Aug 28 (TNA) -- Residents of Bangkok on Monday welcomed the latest capital's landmarks which is the Sathitwaree Bridge in the Nong Bon lake.
Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang officially opened the Sathitwaree Bridge, a pedestrian bridge, located the Nong Bon lake in Sri Nakarin Soi 57 in Prawes district on the outskirts of Bangkok.
The pedestrian bridge was built as part of a public park to provide Bangkok residents with a place to rest and relax with attractive views and a calm clean atmosphere.
The Irrigation Department was tasked with the responsibility for constructing the pedestrian bridge that straddles the Nong Bon lake as well as the landscaping and other physical reconstruction needed for the park.
The bridge was constructed along traditional Thai architectural themes and focuses on spaciousness and simplicity. The Sathitwaree Bridge measures 145 meters in length and is 6 meters above the highest water point in the lake to allow boats to pass.
Construction was completed in December 20, 2017 and was named Sathitwaree by the Governor.
The Nong Bon lake covers more than 644 rai in size and has now been given the dual role of not only storing excess flood water in the Kaem Ling (monkey cheeks) Project instigated under Royal Patronage by His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej but also now serves as a place where Bangkok families can come to relax, exercise and wind down.
