PM to push for comprehensive BIMSTEC cooperation
BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) --Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will attend the BIMSTEC Summit in Nepal on Aug 30-31 and push for comprehensive cooperation in the region.
Deputy government spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said Gen Prayut would attend the 4th Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit in Kathmandu and would also have bilateral talks with his Nepalese and Indian counterparts.
Lt Gen Werachon said that the summit’s concept was “Towards a Peaceful, Prosperous and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region”. There Gen Prayut will push for cooperation on land and marine transport, trade and investment and the development of BIMSTEC’s people-centered visibility that is in accordance with Thailand’s policy for security, prosperity and sustainability.
In the summit, three agreements will be signed for cooperation on academic and economic affairs. They concern the integration of electricity networks, technology-transfer centers and diplomatic cooperation. Afterwards, there will be a ceremony to hand over the BIMSTEC chair to Sri Lanka. (TNA)
