Anti-corruption campaigns and support grow
BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) -- Networks and public support to fight against corruption are growing, said the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) on its 7th anniversary.
ACT chairman Pramon Sutivong said ACT had been gathering support for anti-corruption campaigns from government, private and civil sectors, so its campaigns truly represented all sectors in the country.
“For 7 years, ACT has been encouraging Thai people to join forces to fight against corruption that has been deep-rooted in the Thai society,” Mr Pramon said.
He quoted the Thai Chamber of Commerce’s findings from its survey that Thai people changed their attitudes towards corruption and could not tolerate it. “Ninety-nine percent of surveyed people see that corruption is not a distant issue and they do not accept a capable but corrupt government,” Mr Pramon said.
According to him, ACT campaigned against amnesty laws and pushed for anti-corruption policies, prosecution against corrupt people without a statute of limitations, and punishment on people who support corruption among government officials.
It also had representatives participate with the government in the formulation of anti-corruption policies and laws and the examination of procurement projects of the government. (TNA)
