UNIATF praises Thailand’s public health services

BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) -- The United Nations Interagency Task Force Mission to Thailand on Non-communicable Disease (UNIATF) praises Thailand for its public health services and work that support sustainable health among people. The message was extended by Soumya Swaminathan, deputy director-general of the World Health Organization and a member of UNIATF. She paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House. Ms Swaminathan expressed appreciation on the Thai government’s efforts to seriously and effectively prevent and control non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country. She promised that UNIATF would support the government in achieving global goals on NCDs control and would share its relevant knowledge with Thailand. Ms Swaminathan also praised Thailand’s universal health security policies, saying the WHO applied it to other developing countries. She said she visited Khon Kaen province and saw that the government’s health policies were really implemented locally. (END)
