Internet, mobile banking services of many banks break down

BANGKOK, Aug 31 (TNA) – The internet and mobile banking systems of many banks were stalled and customers were unable to make transactions. Many banks said their systems stopped working this morning and through social media including Twitter they apologized for customers’ inconveniences. Kasikornbank said that its systems partially malfunctioned and customers were unable to do some transactions, especially inter-banking transactions. It was trying to solve the problem. Thanachart Bank stated that it shut down its Thanachart Connect services temporarily and customers should use iNet and ATM services. Krungsri Bank said its mobile and internet banking services stopped temporarily and it was trying to fix the problem as soon as possible. The Thai Bankers’ Association denied the problem resulted from hacking. Yos Kimsawatde, head of the association’s payment system office, said banks used a common central switching system and the problem started with Kasikornbank and spread to other banks. Kasikornbank might deactivate its system temporarily to solve the problem, he said. (TNA)
