East, West Thailand could be impacted by flooding

BANGKOK, Sept 8 (TNA) -- Office of the National Water Resources Secretary-General Somkiat Prajamwong has expressed worried that the eastern and western parts of the country could be impacted by flooding. Mr Somkiat said rainwater in the Central region is not to be worried because of good management of water flowing from the North and the flooding situation would not repeat the severed situation like in 2011. Also, some of the dams are able to store more water. If rain does not fall heavily in the Central region, people can be assured that severe flooding would not occur, he said. Eastern provinces including Prachin Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Chachoengsao should be given special attention during September while authorities in western provinces must speed on draining water because heavier rain is expected next month, said Mr Somkiat. He said Deputy Prime Minister Gen Chatchai Sarikulya had expressed concern and ordered authorities to inform people at least three days in advance before flooding occurs. (TNA)
