Infant, attacked by rabid dog under close medical surveillance
NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Sept 11 (TNA) – A 19-day-old infant, who was bitten by a rabid dog at her house in Nakhon Si Thammarat has been placed under close medical surveillance as doctors are concerned over possible complications from her wounds.
Director of the Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, Dr Songkiart Lektrakul said the baby has been vaccinated against rabies and is being treated for her wounds in the sterile room.
The baby can feed and does not need a respirator. However, she has quite a severe head injury and medicines can be given to the baby only on an as-needed basis.
The baby girl was attacked by a stray dog while she was sleeping in a hammock at her home in Chalerm Phrakiat district on September 5.
The dog later tested positive for rabies. The area was declared a temporary rabies epidemic zone. (TNA)
