Typhoon Mangkhut to bring heavy downpours
BANGKOK, Sept 14 (TNA) -- Heavy rain, floods and landslide are predicted in most regions of the country from Sept 17 to 19 due to the approaching Typhoon Mangkhut.
Samroeng Saengphuwong, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the National Water Resources, said Typhoon Mangkhut was moving northwesterly, would arrive in the upper South China Sea and southern China and would disperse in either southern China or northern Vietnam.
The typhoon will bring heavy rain to the North and the Northeast. It will strengthen the southwestern monsoon and thus cause heavy rain in the western part of the Central Plain, the East and the western coast of the South. Heavily rain is likely in 49 provinces in the regions.
In the past 24 hours, the heaviest rain measured 202 millimeters in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani.
Mr Samroeng also said that water exceeded the upper rule curves at six large dams including the Nam Un dam that was 104% full in Sakon Nakhon province and the Kaeng Krachan dam that was 99% full in Phetchaburi province. (TNA)
