Airport confirms enough taxi service after protest threat by taxi vans
SAMUT PRAKARN, Sept 14 (TNA) – Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok’s main international airport has a contingency plan to handle transportation service if taxi vans protest to demand a surcharge increase from 50 baht to 100 baht.
Airport deputy director, Kittipong Kittikajorn said he listened to the outcry from the taxi vans, calling for the surcharge increase. Their demand was forwarded to the Department of Land Transport, he said.
Taxi van drivers threatened to stop providing service to airport passengers if their demand is not met, causing concerns over the impacts on passengers.
He affirmed that the taxi service at Suvarnabhumi Airport is running normally currently and the airport has a contingency plan to handle the situation. It will contact public transportation network and taxi coops to send in additional taxis to give service to passengers.
He called for protesting taxi drivers to remain calm and wait for the response from the state agency before they decide to go ahead with their planned movement. (TNA)
