Govt relaxes political ban
BANGKOK, Sept 15 (TNA) - Paving ways for the first post-coup election next year, the National Council for Peace and Order has relaxed restrictions on political activities and allowed political parties to convene, accept members, nominate leaders and party committee members.
The relaxing order was issued Friday after promulgation of the two organic laws on the selection of senators and the MP election on Wednesday.
Under the order, political parties are, however, not allowed to conduct electronic communication and electoral campaigns.
Because of time constraints, primary voting, demanded by the current Constitution to ensure better participation, is now being adjusted. A committee, comprising four party executives and seven members is allowed to screen candidates for the party executives to consider and approve.
The easing of the ban is for 90 days until the MP election law is put into effect. It is expected the political ban will be removed in mid-December. (TNA)
