Kahramaa's Infrastructure Enables Easy Switch to Smart Network

Doha, September 17 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has an infrastructure that enables it to easily switch to a smart network in water monitoring and distribution systems, Kahramaa has said.
At a press conference held by Kahramaa today, Director of Water Network Operation & Control Department Eng Abdul Monem Ahmed Darwish said that within the framework of its interest in creating a smart network, a specialized team was formed to look for smart solutions and the latest technologies available in the international markets to achieve this goal.
Eng Darwish said that Kahramaa is always working on providing an integrated network of water, whether from tanks or highly efficient transmission and distribution networks along with sophisticated control. Recently, many smart solutions have been implemented to detect leaks and water losses, he said.
He pointed out that the aim of this press conference was to present the achievements of Kahramaa regarding the operation of the water system and the reduction of water losses in addition to providing smart solutions in this regard, adding that one of these projects has been implemented for about 3 years in 10 areas and has already enabled the project to achieve water savings of one million and 500,000 cubic meters of water equivalent to QR 6.2 million.
In this project, he said, about 1000 digital devices were installed on the water distribution networks in those ten areas in order to monitor any water leakage through censoring water leaks and sending a direct notification to Kahramaa about the site leakage in order to deal with it.
In addition, other projects with smart solutions have been implemented in water transmission lines from production stations to Kahramaa tanks, he said, adding leaks that have been identified in the transmission lines helped in reducing the losses significantly.
Head of Water Loss and Leak Section Jassim Mohammed Al Mansouri made a detailed presentation of the project, stressing that Kahramaa has many similar projects that are implemented in other areas and networks.
He pointed out that Qatar is one of the first countries in the region to implement the leak detection project, adding that the other Kahramaa leak detection projects also enjoy high levels of quality. (QNA)
