Qatar's Industrial Production Index Rises in July

Doha, September 19 (QNA) - The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS), has issued a press release for July 2018 of industrial production index to study and analyze the economic level of the state. This index details the growth of various industrial sectors in an economy such as "Mining", "Manufacturing", "Electricity production", and "Water production and desalination". It is a short-term quantitative index that measures the changes in the volume of productions of a selected basket of industrial products over a given period with respect to that in a chosen period called the base period. The Industrial Production Index consists of three main components: "Mining" with a relative importance of 83.6 percent, "Manufacturing" with a relative importance of 15.2 percent, "Electricity" with a relative importance of 0.7 percent, and finally "Water" with a relative importance of 0.5 percent. The Industrial Production index (IPI), July 2018 amounted to 107.7 points, increased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous month (June-2018), and increased by 1.4 percent, when compared to the corresponding month of 2017. The index of Mining sector showed an increase by 2.4 percent compared to the previous month (June of 2018), as a result of the increase in the quantities of "crude oil and natural gas" by 2.4 percent, while "Other mining and quarrying" showed a decrease by 2.8 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2017), the IPI of Mining increased by 2.1 percent. In the Manufacturing sector, an increase of 1.2 percent is recorded in July 2018 compared to the previous month (June-2018), because of the increase in production of five groups: "Manufacture of basic metals" by 9.1 percent, "Manufacture of beverages" by 7.4 percent, "Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products" by 6.7 percent, "Manufacture of refined petroleum products", and "Manufacture of rubber and plastics products" by 1.6 percent each. However a decrease was recorded in other three groups: "Manufacture of food products" by 0.7 percent, "Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products" by 0.5 percent, and "Printing and reproduction of recorded media" by 0.4 percent. On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to July 2017, a decrease of 1.1 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: "Manufacture of food products" by 9.2 percent, "Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products" by 5.2 percent, and "Printing and reproduction of recorded media" by 3.8 percent. However a rise recorded in "Manufacture of basic metals" by 14.3 percent, "Manufacture of rubber and plastics products" by 12.8 percent, "Manufacture of beverages" by 9.9 percent, "Manufacture of refined petroleum products" by 5.4 percent, "Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products" by 3.9 percent. The Electricity": sector showed an increase of 5.7 percent in the production of "Electricity" group between July 2018 and the previous month (June-2018), while the annual decrease ( comparing with July 2017), was 9.9 percent. In the Water sector, when compared July 2018 with the previous month, IPI shows a decrease of 0.2 percent was noticed. Comparing with corresponding month (July2017), a decrease of 12.9 percent was recorded. (QNA)
