AGU invites bidders to build King Abdullah Medical City

Manama, Sept. 23 (BNA): The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has invited leading construction companies to submit their bids for constructing and building King Abdullah Medical City in Bahrain which was instructed to be launched by the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. The King Abdullah Medical City project, paid for through a 1 billion Saudi riyal grant from the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, will be built on a one million square meter plot of land donated by His Majesty King Hamad. The medical city will boast 300 beds and a full range of outpatient clinics, in addition to 15 operating rooms and quality support medical services such as advanced laboratories and a pharmacy. AGU’s President Dr. Khaled bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly, pointed out that the selection process for the construction companies would be carried out according to several criteria, most notably their previous experiences according to the number of projects completed by these companies during the last five years as well as the size of these projects, and if they include health projects. Dr. Al Ohaly said that the first and second stages of the project are expected to complete after two years from the beginning of works. According to the project plan, the first stage of the construction of the medical city will include the hospital, the administration building, the staff accommodation, and the parking. The second phase includes medical school, research centres, physiotherapy centre, mosque, conference centre, shopping centre and other buildings serving the medical city. He explained that the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City will be a medical destination for the people of the Kingdom and the GCC countries and will be an educational lighthouse and an advanced medical centre to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to citizens of the GCC countries.
