Thailand's border trade surges
BANGKOK, Sept 25 (TNA) -- Thailand’s border trade amounted more than Bt922 billion between January and August this year, up 6.51 percent from the same period last year, Commerce Ministry reports.
Foreign Trade Department Director General Adul Chotinisakorn announced Monday Thailand’s trade with neighboring countries recorded Bt922.31 billion in the first eight months on 2018.
Malaysia remained Thailand’s largest cross-border trade partner by value, amounting to about Bt370 billion, he said.
The Department planned to stage border trade promotion campaign Yen-D Program in CLMV countries to boost trade ties.
CLMV countries are Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Mr Adul said under the Program Thai business delegation visit CLMV countries for business-matching activities. Other platforms such as Thai-Myanmar border trade joint commission and Mekong Business Forum and Trade Show 2018 were instrumental for border trade promotion, he said.
Mr Adul added that the Ministry was optimistic about its export target this year, he said, believing the total value would reach Bt1.5 trillion, a 15 percent growth this year. (TNA)
