KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Sept 27 (Bernama) -- The east Malaysian state government of Sabah welcomes companies and businessmen from China investing and bringing in more capital and technology to increase the pace of the state's economic development. Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal said the state government would, therefore, work towards developing a more conducive and supportive environment for investors. “This afternoon I met with a group of investors from China who are prepared to invest no less than US$2.5 billion in a particular sector in Sabah and create about 3,000 jobs for the Sabahans,” he disclosed. Mohd Shafie was speaking at a ceremony here tonight to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China organised by the Chinese Consulate General Office in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah. Also present was the republic's Consul General in the city, Liang Caide. Mohd Shafie said the new Parti Warisan Sabah-led state government valued greatly the cooperation with China. “Sabah is, therefore, capitalising on the Belt and Road Initiative to strengthen its cooperation with China in various areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, forestry, fishery and tourism. “Agreements related to durians, rubber and palm oil signed during Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's recent visit to China are encouraging. I believe that Sabah will benefit from these agreements,” he added. He said the Sabah government would continue to strengthen cooperation with China in various industrial sectors as well as learning from the latter's experience to improve the speed and quality of the state's development. “The Consulate General Office in Kota Kinabalu has made an important contribution to building up the Sabah-China relations in various areas. “Therefore, Sabah will maintain communications and cooperation with the Consulate to work together towards promoting the friendship between China and Sabah, and I hope Malaysia and China can continue to enjoy prosperity and peacefulness and maintain our friendship always,” he added. -- BERNAMA
