Foreign minister meets Ugandan, Eritrean, Romanian, Slovak counterparts

New York, Sept. 28 (BNA): On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, met the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs) of the Republic of Uganda, Henry Oryem Okello. They reviewed the bilateral relations and progress witnessed between both countries, as well as joint cooperation in various fields. A number of regional and international issues of common concern were also discussed during their meeting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met his Eritrean counterpart, Osman Saleh. The meeting dealt with ways to enhance mutual relations between the two countries in order to achieve mutual interest and benefit both countries and peoples. Shaikh Khalid congratulated the Eritrean Foreign Minister on the signing of the Jeddah Peace Agreement between the State of Eritrea and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, noting that it will preserve security and stability and support prosperous efforts in both countries and the region as a whole. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met his Romanian counterpart, Teodor Meleșcanu, and praised the friendly relations between the two countries and their keenness to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields, pointing out the importance of communication between the two countries and constant joint coordination on various issues in order to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. The Romanian Foreign Minister stressed his country’s keenness to develop relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain in all political, economic and other fields, highlighting the progress and prosperity of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák. The two sides expressed their aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations and promote all aspects of mutual cooperation which will serve the interests of both friendly countries and peoples, and it will also lead to increased coordination between the two countries in international forums related to issues of common concern. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also praised the efforts of Mr. Lajčák during his presidency of the United Nations General Assembly at its 72nd session and his keenness to activate the role of the United Nations in the consolidation of international peace and security. A number of topics concerning the agenda of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly were addressed.
