Thailand’s first plastic road planned in Chon Buri

BANGKOK, Oct 5 (TNA) -- Amata Corporation, SCG Chemicals Co and Dow Thailand Group will build Thailand’s first plastic road, believed to be better than asphaltic roads, in the Amata City Chon Buri Industrial Estate in Chon Buri province. Wiwat Kromdit, land development of Amata Corporation, said about 1.3 tons of recycled plastic would be used to build the road covering 2,600 square meters in the industrial estate within November. Recycled plastic would be mixed with asphalt and the new road would be 15-33% more durable and give 6% more friction than asphaltic roads, he said. The project solved the problem of plastic waste and promoted circular economy, he said. Chatchai Luenpolcharoenchai, chairman of Dow Thailand Group, said the group had successfully built plastic-asphaltic roads with a combined distance of about 40 kilometers in India and Indonesia. Cholanat Yanaranop, managing director of SCG Chemicals, said the project could be expanded to other areas and was a sustainable choice for the disposal of plastic waste. (TNA)
