Mith Lao Sugar Mill injects money to its sugar farm

(KPL) Mith Lao Sugar Company initially decided to invest five billion baht but then it increased it by an additional billion to expand its sugar business in Laos.
High ranking officials of this company said that this is because of demand for sugar from various countries.
Director General of Mitre Lao Sugar Company, Mr. Bantheung Wongkulsonkrit said last week that the additional one billion baht would be used to expand its sugar cane farm.
Presently, its sugarcane is grown in two locations, Outhoumphone district of Savannakhet province and Sebangfai district of Khammouane province and the total area under this crop is 6,400 hectares, he said.
The company, he added, intends to propose to the government for a lease of 10,000 hectares of land.
The mill, located in Ban Kenghed, Sayboury district, Savannakhet, produced 24,000 tonnes of sugar last year and for this year it will produce 500,000 tons.
Ninety five per cent of its sugar is exported to EU and only five per cent is channelled to the Lao market.
