Reckless surgeons to be punished
BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - The Medical Council of Thailand (MCT) has an established policy on a definite punishment of reckless medical doctors and surgeons, applying to its criteria and standard rules of the medical profession, which are based on international standards.
Reports said that MCT is thoroughly investigating a recent case in which a 72-year-old woman died from an allegedly recklessness during a reconstructive surgery on her face at a beauty clinic in Bangkok.
According to the reports, MCT is prepared to punish a surgeon who conducted the fatal reconstructive surgery on the elderly woman's face at his own clinic, based on its internationally-applied standard rules of the medical profession, if the evidence of the surgeon's recklessness is verified.
Meanwhile, police investigators have been on well progress for their probe in the case, which took place in Wang Thonglang area in the capital, and have charged the surgeon on operating a clinic without a legal license, in addition to an earlier charge of reckless medical conduct with the death of a victim consequently.
A notification on the charges is expected to be soon sent to the alleged surgeon after Monday's meeting of the police investigators to look into the evidence they have gathered and to make a decision on further action.
Based on updated reports, the result of a probe on chemical substances in the body of the dead victim are expected to be announced within 15 days. (TNA)
