Bahrain Health Minister elected as 65th WHO Regional Committee Deputy Chairman

Khartoum, (BNA): Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh led Bahrain’s delegation to the meetings of the 65th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean being held on 15-18 October in Khartoum, Sudan. Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, Sudan’s Health Minister Dr. Mohamed Abu-Zaid Mustafa and heads of delegations of Member States of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region attended the opening of the session. During the first session, Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh was elected as Deputy Chairman of the current session. And the WHO Regional Director presented the 2017 annual report, periodic reports and the road map for WHO's work in the region. Bahrain’s delegation highlighted the government’s effort to achieve the health-related sustainable development goals, in addition to the application of the health insurance system to conform with the WHO goals in terms of the sustainability of health services and financing them. On the sidelines of the session, the Health Minister held two meetings with the WHO Director-General and with Sudan’s Health Minister, during which discussed aspects of cooperation.
