Bahrain Oil Minister inaugurates GCF meeting

Manama, Oct. 17 (BNA): Oil Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa inaugurated today the 21st meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The minister congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the Kingdom's hosting the 21st meeting of the GCF as the first Gulf country. The minister expressed his appreciation to HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa the Prime Minister for his continued support for all the activities of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and to the support of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister for his guidance and continued follow-up to this important global event. The GCF represents an important financing mechanism for developing countries to implement sustainable development projects in the areas of adaptation, mitigation of climate change and fulfilment of their commitments to the Paris Climate Agreement. Shaikh Mohammed said that the Kingdom has witnessed a great development, under its leadership, and an advanced steps in the field of oil and gas industry, which is the main source of the national economy. He pointed out to the role played by the Kingdom at the regional and international level, in addressing the phenomenon of climatic changes. The active participation of Bahrain in international diplomacy aimed at implementing what was agreed in the Paris Climate Agreement by the year 2020. The event was attended by the GCF board of directors and representatives of official states and relevant international organisations from various countries of the world to facilitate the access of financial resources to projects in the climate change field.
