No conclusion on cannabis
BANGKOK, Oct 20 (TNA) -- The government is still considering whether to allow using of cannabis for medical purposes in Thailand, said Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam.
A draft law which would pave ways for the use of marijuana in medical field is being drafted while related government agencies had attended a seminar and discussed the draft law, said Mr Wissanu.
Deputy Prime Minister/Justice Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong will compile information and submit the study to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha for his consideration so that a decision could be made, he said.
There are three alternatives in pushing for legality of using of cannabis in the medical field, Mr Wissanu said.
According to him, the draft law would be debated by members of National Legislative Assembly and, if approved, the draft would be passed into law, he said, adding that this would be time consuming.
Secondly, the Assembly members propose the draft law and debate it immediately to speed an approval of the draft, he said. While the third way is to issue a royal decree so that the matter could be implemented immediately.
Mr Wissanu said he had learned that either concerned ministry would amend its regulation allowing the use of cannabis for medical purpose or issuing a royal decree for the solution of the issue. (TNA)
