MATRADE Spearheads Malaysia's FMCG Promotion at Canton Fair
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE or the national trade promotion agency) is spearheading Malaysia’s exports of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) promotion at the 124th China Import and Export (Canton) Fair, Phase 3 (Autumn Session) 2018.
In a statement Friday, MATRADE said 24 Malaysian companies took part in the event, held from Oct 31-Nov 4 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, to promote food and beverages, health and wellness products, and household items, among others.
China and Northeast Asia Section Director Ong Yew Chee said MATRADE aimed to expand Malaysia’s exports to China and leverage on the strong presence of foreign buyers at the event.
“The initiative is one of MATRADE’s efforts to capitalise on Guangdong’s well-established connectivity along the Maritime Silk Route as well as the border trade connection between Shenzhen, Macau and Hong Kong,” he said.
Last year, Malaysia’s trade with Guangdong was valued at about US$32.96 billion (RM137.35 billion, US$1 = RM4.17) - accounting for a quarter of Malaysia’s trade with China, with exports worth RM73.17 billion and imports valued at RM64.18 billion.
