EDB seeks young artistic talent to promote Bahrain abroad

Manama, (BNA): The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) has launched an art competition aimed at 18-25-year-old university students. The competition, based around the theme ‘a glimpse of Bahrain’, aims to create awareness about EDB’s mandate and role amongst Bahraini youth while at the same time introducing Bahrain to potential investors and high level foreign stakeholders through converting the best paintings into corporate gifts.
With three top cash prizes worth BD 1,000, BD 500, and BD 250, the competition will be open for submissions between November 11th and close on November 29th, 2018. The winning paintings will be presented as gifts to international guests and stakeholders, allowing Bahraini youth the opportunity to contribute to the EDB’s ongoing mission of attracting foreign investment. Not only that but all the winning submissions will be features on the Bahrain EDB website under a gallery dedicated to this initiative titled ‘meet the contestants’.
To enter contestants must be both Bahraini nationals and registered University students. Submissions must be in a A4 size or 8.3 inches by 11.7 inches format, and be an original artwork – no part of the submission can be copied or adapted from another source. Submissions must also be one-dimensional and can be rendered in a variety of media such as acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel, pencil, charcoal or mixed media.
Each entry will be judged against the below criteria, with each category accounted for equally:
Creativity – how the work breaks new ground in communicating its message
Quality – The skill involved in producing the work
Originality - the level to which the work is unique and original
Composition and Layout – The visual balance of the various elements of work and how the story is conveyed
An entry form must be filled out by each entrant and submitted physically, along with the artwork, to the EDB office. The entries must also be accompanied by copies of university ID’s and CPRs. Once submitted, all entries will become the property of the EDB.
