Bahrain's commitment to religious freedom, tolerance praised

Manama, Nov. 13 (BNA): The German ambassador to Bahrain has praised the kingdom's commitment to religious freedom and tolerance. Ambassador Kai Boeckmann also lauded Bahrain's contribution to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals and to win the support of young people for these goals. "I am profoundly grateful to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HE Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa who have assured me of their support and the support of the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain for our efforts to deepen and strengthen the excellent relationship between Germany and Bahrain," Boeckmann said at a reception hosted by the embassy to mark German Unity Day. "I congratulate the Kingdom of Bahrain for its election to the UN Human Rights Council." The relationship between Germany and Bahrain is an important element in the effort to overcome divisions, bridge the gap between differing opinions, help resolve crises and conflicts across the globe and promote human rights and the rule of law, the ambassador added. Boeckmann said that Germany wanted to honour the trust of the international community after it was elected by more than 180 countries to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for two years. "We want to do everything in our power to promote peace and security in the world in cooperation with our partners. This is only possible within a rules-based international order. True multilateralism does not impose the law of the strong but creates fair conditions for everyone," he said. "One lesson from German reunification is that true progress can never take place by going it alone." German Unity Day commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990.
