Mie-Thailand Innovation Center opened in Bangkok

BANGKOK, November 13 (TNA) - Japan's Mie Prefecture and the Thai government, through the Ministry of Industry and the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI), have agreed on jointly opening the "Mie-Thailand Innovation Center in Bangkok this week, paving the way for Thailand to become an international leading base for the high technological-production of world food innovations in the future. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, is scheduled to inaugurate the Mie-Thailand Innovation Center at the National Food Institute (NFI) in Bangkok on November 14. Earlier, the Mie Prefecture, which is located on Japan's main Honshu Island and is specialized in the research and development of food innovations and relevant high technologies, and Thailand's Ministry of Industry and BOI concluded an agreement on the establishment of the Mie-Thailand Innovation Center in Bangkok, aimed to bring about technological transfer and the development and the production of innovative processed food products in the Thai economy to enhance the competitiveness of the Thai food industry to become a global leader of the production of value-added food products. Besides, the newly-opened Mie-Thailand Innovation Center will help develop personnel in the Thai food industry and create more opportunities for business operators in the country to become more accessible to high technologies and research projects on more value-added innovative food products, namely snacks made from the Thai Hom Mali or fragrant rice, while expanding and deepening cooperation between the Japanese and the Thai food industries simultaneously, covering relevant trade, investment and tourism plans.
