Bahrain Science Centre hosts astronaut

Manama, Nov. 16 (BNA): The Youth and Sports Ministry’s Bahrain Science Centre has hosted, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the US Embassy, American astronaut, Alfred Worden, who was the Command Module Pilot for the Apollo 15 lunar mission in 1971. The astronaut delivered a lecture in which he introduced himself and highlight his successful lunar mission, as well as ways his preparations ahead of it. He also reviewed the equipment and special clothes that should be used by the astronaut, in addition to medical check-ups they should undergo. He also described his feelings during the launch of the space shuttle and throughout the journey, in addition to what he had seen while on the moon. A short film on Apollo 15 lunar mission was shown, and then the astronaut answered the questions of those present on his space mission. Shaikha Noora bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Director of Youth Activities at the Youth and Sports Ministry, said that hosting the American astronaut is part of the centre’s events and programmes aimed at informing youth and youngsters about successful experiences in space sciences.
