MISUSED LICENCES AT HIGHWAYS' R&R WILL BE WITHDRAWN
DENGKIL, March 19 (Bernama) -- Stall owners who misuse their business
licences at Rest and Recreation (R&R) stops along Expressways or Highways, would
be penalised and their licences withdrawn immediately warned Works Minister Mohd
Zin Mohamed.
Mohd Zin said such licences were issued to provide an opportunity for local
residents to venture into business but it has come to our attention that such
licences were being rented out to foreigners.
"We will not hesitate to withdraw such licences. These licences are much
sort after and in great demand. For example, at the Dengkil R&R, there are only
15 stalls but 1,000 people had applied.
"So, it is better to withdraw the licences of those who misuse them and give
it to those who are genuine in doing business," he told reporters after opening
the Dengkil R&R (North bound) here Wednesday.
He also urged Expressway and Highway concessionaires to ensure that illegal
traders do not use R&R facilities to conduct their business.
Meanwhile, PLUS Expressways Berhad managing director Noorizah Abd Hamid
assured that all stall owners and workers at R&R's under PLUS were locals.
