AGU students celebrate Oman National Day

Manama, Nov. 21 (BNA): Students from various GCC countries at Arabian Gulf University (AGU) celebrated the Omani National Day alongside their Omani peers, as well as the 48th Anniversary of the Renaissance lead by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said. The ceremony was attended by the President of AGU, Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Ohaly, Vice-President Dr. Khaled Saeed Tabbara, Deans of various colleges and their deputies. Dr. Al-Ohaly conveyed his gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan, wishing him good health, wellness and longevity on this occasion, and prosperity to Oman. He praised Oman's achievements in recent years and its development projects in the public and private sectors. He highly prized the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for the establishment of a specialised scientific research centre at AGU in the field of advanced agricultural techniques, especially soilless agriculture technology, stemming from His Majesty’s belief in the importance of preserving and managing natural resources in an integrated manner that ensures the sustainability of arable land for the benefit of future generations. It is noteworthy that AGU is host to the Sultan Qaboos Centre, established in 2001 with the direct support of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The Centre aims to develop the agricultural sector to be sustainable in the GCC, as a sector that contributes to national economy and food security. The Centre works to realise the vision of His Majesty by achieving sustainable agricultural development, in view of limited natural resources, working to transform the agricultural sector into a growing sector to continuously boost the Gulf economy through research, studies, continuous training and employment of modern methods and technologies such as soilless farming techniques, and others. The College of Medicine and Medical Sciences at AGU has so far graduated 156 doctors from Oman, in addition to 26 graduates of the College of Graduate Studies with Master’s degrees in various programmes, bringing the total Omani graduates from AGU to 182 graduates, 54 of whom are males and 128 females.
